A Simple Photovoltaic Panel Model: Characterization Procedure And Evaluation Of The Environmental Measurements

    Abstract

Solar panel is gaining an ever increasing foothold in society, especially on the roof of the houses for feeding domestic electrical appliances in recent times. In many situations the expensive solar panels stop working due to some external nuisances which goes unnoticed to the users. There is a need of a low-cost monitoring system to get information of the defected solar panels for timely repair and maintenance. The design, development and trial work of a performance monitoring system of distributed solar panels along with automated data logging based on a low-cost wireless sensors network has been reported to help the current situation. We prevent the fluctuations in power supply from the solar panel by monitoring the power factors of the panel. We use windmill as an additional source of energy. Voltage, current, lighting and temperatures are measured from solar panel to find the energy status of solar panel. Voltage is controlled by voltage sensor, current is controlled by current sensor, light level can be measured by LDR, and temperature is measured by temperature sensor. So we can find different sections of solar panel status by using single controller. A system has been developed which can track the monitor the performance of the solar panel, can set the maximum power point of solar panels, monitor its instantaneous power output and send and receive data and commands from an operator who is based on a remote location using wireless medium. The system will also be able to monitor whether there is any operational problem of the solar panel, such as not generating any output even in presence of sunlight.
