PC Based Automatic Railway Gate Controlling System

    Abstract

This project is developed for the users to know the distance of the train in unguarded level crossings and thereby operating the gate automatically. The details are stored in a PC. Usually in unguarded railway crossings, peoples cross the track without knowing whether train is coming or not. So many accidents happen. To avoid such a situation, this project will be very helpful. It consists of an IR sensor in the railway track. In each and every unguarded level crossing, there is a display, siren and gate arrangement. When the train is coming over the track, the sensor connected near the unguarded level crossing senses the arrival of train. The sensor sends signal to the microcontroller. The microcontroller controls the gate operation through drivers and relays and sends signal to the PC through serial port. The monitor display displays the status of the train. Thus the users can easily understand the arrival of train. All the details are stored in a PC. The microcontroller program is written in assembly language. The design and port programs are written in VB.NET. The microcontroller used is PIC16F73.
