This project is developed for the users to control the operation of a robot through Telephone line. The user can control all the operations of the Robot. This project is used to control a robot from any distance, overcoming the limited range of infrared and radio remote controls. The circuit can be used to switch up to nine appliances (corresponding to the digits 1 through 9 of the telephone key-pad). The Digital Tone Modulation Frequency (DTMF) signals on telephone instrument are used as control signals. The digit ‘0’ in DTMF mode is used to toggle between the appliance mode and normal telephone operation mode. Thus the telephone can be used to operate the robot also while being used for normal conversation. The circuit uses IC 8870 (DTMF to BCD converter), PIC16F73 Microcontroller (4 to 16 line demultiplexer). When the user presses a key in the mobile, a DTMF signal is generated and sends through telephone line. IC 8870 converts the DTMF signal to BCD. This signal is given to the microcontroller. The microcontroller operates the robot through drivers and relays. A metal detector is connected with the robot. If it senses any metals, the microcontroller sends signal to a buzzer. The overall operation of this circuit is controlled by the Microcontroller (Programmed for demultiplexer). We can also control the robotic operations using cell phone. The microcontroller program is written in assembly language.
