Utility companies are under pressure. Growing populations are using increasing amounts of power, which is putting a strain on existing supplies. In many countries (including the US) the increase in demand is growing at a faster rate than transmission capacity and the cost of providing power is also increasing due to higher fuel prices and increases in the cost of construction and capital expenses. This paper provides an overview of Wireless Sensor Network for Power Management, including the cost savings it can provide. In this project the EB meter reading is sensed through current and voltage sensing unit. Here we are implementing a new technology to manage the power supply by splitting it into three priorities high, low and normal. If EB receives less amount of power from the grid it switches to high or low priority as much the availability of current if EB receives full power, it switches on the normal priority. The switching is done from EB to home through wireless communication. In this project power shut down information can also be transmitted to the home through zigbee. The data is sent to the microcontroller and then transmitted through Zigbee transmitter. The Zigbee receiver receives the data. The Microcontroller sends the signal to the PC through serial port. The data is stored in the PC. The PLC used is PIC16f877A. The Microcontroller program is written in assembly language.
