Auto Changeover to Generator on Mains Failure

    Abstract

Many locations use either manual remote control starter or quite expensive company made automatic starters for diesel generators. The circuit described here is a simple electromechanical system for automatically starting a standby diesel generator (DG) and mains to standby (and vice versa) changeover system for 3-phase supply is rather easy to assemble and works quite reliably. Quite often the system of changeover employed is of manual type. Heavy-duty switches are provided for manual changeover from mains-to-standby (DG) and vice versa. Here we present the design of an auto changeover system which is built around two heavy-duty electromagnetic contactors and microcontroller which controls the operation of both these contactors.
