TRANSMISSION LINE FAULT DETECTION AND REPORTING

    Abstract

0Transmission line protection has been predominantly based on the amplitude or phase comparison of two or more sinusoidal relaying quantity using either an electromechanical or solid state devices. These methods involve voltage and current measurement. Transmission line protection is an important issue in power system engineering because 85-87% of power system faults are occurring in transmission lines. Fault detection on transmission lines are important task to safeguard electric power systems. When a fault occurs in transmission line, unless it is severe it is unseen. But gradually these minor faults can lead to damage of transformer and can turn havoc to human life. It may also initiate fire. This project is developed for the users to detect the fault in transmission and to inform the EB in wireless manner. It consists of power sensor, arduino microcontroller unit, GSM etc. In the house/industries, the microcontroller unit is connected with the power transmission line through power sensor. The status of electricity is sensed by the arduino microcontroller. In the time of power fault, the sensor sends signal to the microcontroller. The microcontroller analyses the signal and accordingly it sends signal to the GSM. GSM sends fault related message to the EB Office through microcontroller unit. The microcontroller used is Arduino and the microcontroller program is written in Arduino language.
