    Voice Controlled Home Automation


    Abstract

    In recent years with the advancement of “Digital India” movement smart phones have reached each and every section of society. So an automation system which could be accessed using android phone could be a good idea as it will not require any extra gadget to be carried for controlling appliances. Moreover the Bluetooth is low cost, short range low power technology. Security factor of smart home is dealt with the fingerprint based access system, as biometrics is the most reliable method of authentication. Fingerprints are considered to be the best and fastest method for biometric identification. They are secure to use, unique for every person and do not change in ones lifetime. Besides these, implementation of fingerprint recognition system is cheap, easy and accurate. Smart home is one of these types of system equipped with home appliances. The system is reliable and can realize the remote control and inquiry of household appliances. This proposed system is developed for monitoring and controlling of home appliances. The proposed method is a development of an arduino microcontroller based automated smart home using voice control with biometric access which ensures the security of the home. In the study hardware and software development are utilized. The home appliances are remotely controlled through Bluetooth enabled android phone using an android app and powering ON/OFF of the home automation circuit is through voice recognition with biometric authentication. Home automation is developed on arduino microcontroller and HC05 Bluetooth module for switching operation of appliances. Relay, bulbs and Bluetooth module are used as load to demonstrate the working of the system.


    Existing System

    The existing system proposed an authentication system for smart homes that uses ear recognition. In this system, the home server is connected to users smartphone to authenticate the user once is within the smart home proximity. The system captures ear image and process its Monogenic Representation Local Binary Pattern (M-LBP). The pattern is then compared to the template in the server for recognition. One limitation of this system is that, the user must have a smartphone that is configures to work with the system every time for authentication. Moreover, it is not known how the system is susceptible to fraud, example when a person walks to the door with a configured smartphone and a picture/3D model of the ear of known system user.


    Proposed System

    Proposed system uses arduino microcontroller for easy access to the home appliances through smart phone. Firstly the user can install specific voice control application in their mobile with finger print access facility. Once the automation system is powered ON, appliances can be remotely controlled after pairing the android phone with HC-05 Bluetooth module. HC-05 interfaced with arduino microcontroller transmits the signal to the arduino micro-controller which controls the devices using the relay module. In the working model of the system 3 bulbs connected to relay are used as ac load and a dc motor fan is used to represent dc load. The relay module operating on 5V DC input, switches the 220V AC devices and the dc load is driven by L239D motor driver. Power handling through one relay is 336W. If the user want to control the home automation, then he/she unlock the mobile with the help of finger print scanner which is inbuilt in his/her mobile. However the user can use the voice control app in their smart phone. In case the user wants to switch ON the first device, just say “1”, otherwise say “2” to OFF the device. Similarly, the other 3 devices are switch ON by saying “3”, “5” and “7” and switched OFF by saying “4”, “6” and “8”. If the person wants to switch ON all the devices, he/she just say “C” in his/her mobile through voice control application, after that all the 4 devices are switched ON at a same time. Otherwise say “9” in his/her mobile through voice control application, then all the 4 devices are switched OFF at the same time.
