Wireless Stethoscope using Bluetooth and Arduino

    Abstract

In this proposed system, we illustrate the development of a Wireless Stethoscope coupled with Bluetooth technology. The system will serve the purpose of transmitting heart sounds wirelessly to a Bluetooth receiver module, which can either be a Bluetooth speaker or a headset. This wireless technique will allow real-time transmission of heart sounds to students for better understanding. This product can serve as a teaching aid in medical institutions as multiple students can receive the transmitted sounds through earpieces, via a wireless connection.

    Existing System

The existing system was consisting of two microphones whose signals are sent through a quad amp which implements an initial gain of three and filters the input via a five pole Sallen-Key low pass filter. The two filtered signals are sent to a mixer, which allows the user to select which input microphone they would like to use and adjust the bass and treble characteristics of the signal. Following the mixer, the signal is sent to another switch, which allows the user to choose between headphone or speaker output

    Proposed System

In this work, however, the chest-piece of the traditional stethoscope is integrated with microcontroller unit and Bluetooth communication device. Captured signals are processed through sound sensor which converts analog signal into digital signal and transmitted to the Arduino microcontroller. The temperature sensor is used to monitor body heat of the patient and it is sent to the Arduino microcontroller. Then the microcontroller transfers the data wirelessly to a mobile device with interface application software for displaying frequency range of the heart beat and also display the temperature of the patient.
